Trout Tournament Results
April 14, 2007

It was a great, if not perfect, day for fishing. Slightly over cast, not too cold, minimal winds and a front moving in. Some would say the conditions were perfect for the last Trout Tournament of the year on Lake Jocassee and most of the 69 anglers who participated in the tournament concurred. Some boats reported catches of more than 20 fish, but in this event quantity is irrelevant. This was a winner take all event for the biggest fish brought to the scales. Bubba Brunson “Brick Man” reeled in the 5.95 pound winning fish with assistance from his wife, Carol “Brick Chick” and angler buddy Stewart Burgess “Mud Minnow” (all from Spartanburg). The crew took home the winner take all pot for April, second place in the Big Fish pot and the annual Jimmie Orr Trout Tournament Championship award. If that was not enough, since there were no fish caught in the November event, we rolled the $1,100 collected from November into the April tournament and the Brunson crew took home that money too. In all, they collected over $3,000 in cash awards and three tournament trophies.

The Jocassee Outdoor Center also sponsored a Big Fish pot for the three biggest fish caught throughout all tournaments from November – April. Pat Patrick won first place for his 6.38 pound Brown caught in February. Pat took home $1,132 for the Big Fish plus $858 for taking first place in February. Bubba Brunson won second place in the Big Fish pot which was worth $708 and Richard Ward won third place for a total of $425. In addition to the cash pot, Pat’s winning fish will be replica mounted compliments of www.4greatfish.com.
Josh Kubler (12) from Greenville, won his second consecutive Jocassee Outdoor Center Youth Tournament Championship. Kids under 16 years of age fish free in all of the tournaments and this year there were several kids that fished, but Josh came out on top by fishing in all of the tournaments and weighing in two fish.
