Trout Tournament Results

Fishing has been outstanding at Lake Jocassee for the past couple of months and it continued to deliver on Saturday at the February Jocassee Trout Tournament. We had 50 anglers plus two kids. There were 11 fish weighed in and the first four places were all over five pounds. The winning fish was caught by Carl Leguire (Andrews, NC) who landed a monster 11.25 pound Brown. This is the largest fish weighed in at a tournament in probably the last decade. The trophy Trout not only won the tournament, but it put Carl in the lead for the Big Fish pot and the Jimmie Orr Championship. This was the first time Carl has ever been on Lake Jocassee which makes the catch even more remarkable. However, he was fishing with his friend Bill Bowman who has fished the lake many times and competes in all of the tournaments. The kids did not catch a fish so Ryan Burnette retains his lead in the Youth Championship. The next tournament is scheduled for March 8, 2008.

We had two kids sign up for the tournament:

  • Blake Finley (10)

No fish were caught in the kids tournament.
Ryan maintains his lead in the youth championship with 10.1 points.

Jimmie Orr Championship:

  • Current leader is Carl Leguire with 17.25 points
  • 2nd – Bubba Brunson with 17.15 points
  • 3rd – Zan Maddox with 16 points

 Big Fish:

  • Total registered for Feb 9 tournament: 36
  • Total entries through all tournaments to date: 156
