Matt McCreery - 1st Place

March is typically one of our largest tournaments of the year. Unfortunately, the high wind advisory of 50+ mph gusts combined with the possibility of rain/sleet/snow, kept all but 22 of the most serious die hard anglers off the water and it turned out to be a brutal day of fishing. In the end, Matt McCreery of Easley took the honors with a 4.3 lb Brown. Matt has faithfully fished the Jocassee tournaments for many years and has placed in the money several times, but this was the first time he took home the “wood”. Zan Maddox, of Rock Hill, took 3rd place and took over the lead in the Jimmie Orr championship. Carl Leguire still holds the lead in the Big Fish championship with the 11.25 lb Trout that he caught last month. The Big Fish championship pays to the top three big fish caught this year. The total big fish pot is currently over $1,500. Ryan Burnette of Inman, was the only kid brave enough to rough out the weather with his dad, Shannon, caught a 1.1 pound Brown to take a commanding lead in the Youth Championship. The final tournament of the year is next month, April 12 with a $25 entry fee and a winner take all pot. We started the season in November with a winner take all pot, but there were no fish brought to the scales. As a result, the $760 collected from the November money will be rolled over to April and the winner of that tournament will take home both pots, which is estimated to be around $1,500. The combined total of big fish and the winner take all tournament will be over $3,000 that will be awarded at the end of the April tournament. The Jocassee Outdoor Center organizes these events every year and in appreciation of all who participate, the JOC will be providing a free BBQ dinner to all of the tournament fishermen after the April tournament.

We had one kid sign up for the tournament: Ryan Burnett (10)

  • Ryan caught a 1.10 pound Brown.
  • Ryan maintains his lead in the youth championship with 17.2 points.

 

Jimmie Orr Championship:

  • Current leader is Zan Maddox with 21.45 points
  • 2nd - Shannon Burnette with 18.4 points
  • 3rd – Bubba Brunson with 18.15 points

 Big Fish:
